At Griswold Eye Care, our goal is promote good eye health and enable you to have the clearest vision possible. We accept several types of vision insurance, cash, checks, and most credit cards.

We inform our Jewett City patients about exam and treatment costs at the beginning of your appointment. If you require a breakdown of costs, please let us know.

The knowledgeable staff at Griswold Eye Care is experienced in working with vision insurance providers. We will work directly with you and your vision insurer to submit claims regarding your vision care. We strive to ensure that you understand your insurance coverage and will answer any questions you may have regarding your benefits. Many current vision plans are designed to cover many of the basic vision-related costs, but not all costs associated with eye care. Most plans often require a co-payment for an office appointment as well as additional costs that are covered by the insured patient.

Contact our office at 860-376-2848 to find out if your insurance provider is accepted in our office or for more information about your vision coverage.

Many employers are offering Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options to employees. Sometimes these are referred to as cafeteria plans and are elective, supplemental insurance savings plans. These plans are designed to let you save money in an account, pre-tax, to pay for additional medical expenses such as eye exams, glasses, contacts, and often laser vision surgery. Check with the benefits administrator at your work to see if you are eligible for this program. FSAs can typically be used in conjunction with any vision insurance plan to offset any out-of-pocket costs on your behalf.

Our Jewett City optometry staff understands that cost is a concern when evaluating vision care providers. We do not want cost to be an obstacle to maintaining proper eye health and good vision. We accept various forms of payment and are able to discuss financing options with you prior to any examination. At Griswold Eye Care, we also accept cash, check, and major credit cards. Call 860-376-2848 today to schedule your eye exam today.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about EyeMed Vision Care

(Change of In-Network Status as of January 1, 2026)

Why can’t you bill my EyeMed insurance anymore?

Unfortunately, EyeMed Vision Care (also known as Blue View Vision) has made recent policy and business changes that no longer align with our mission of putting our patients first. EyeMed has been a valued partner for many years, and we’ve appreciated being able to care for patients through their plans. However, since their merger with the large lens manufacturer Essilor, we’ve observed a significant shift in priorities. These new restrictions limit access to the high-quality lenses and products we believe our patients deserve, while also drastically reducing reimbursements for care. Because of these changes, it’s become impossible for us to maintain our relationship with EyeMed while continuing to provide the level of care and service that defines our practice.

Do I need to cancel my appointment if you’re no longer in-network with EyeMed?

Not at all! We’re honored to continue caring for you, regardless of your insurance status. Griswold Eye Care is now considered an open access provider for EyeMed patients. This means you can still receive your comprehensive eye care and premium eyewear with us at competitive prices. Even better, your vision plan may reimburse you directly for your exam, glasses, or contact lenses. We’ll handle the claim submission for you through our partner, Anagram, so you won’t have to fill out any paperwork. Most importantly, open access allows us to provide care and products without any limitations set by your insurance company.

Can I have my eye exam at Griswold Eye Care and buy my glasses or contacts somewhere else?

Absolutely. You’re always free to use your valid prescriptions to purchase glasses or contact lenses wherever you prefer.

Will EyeMed still help cover the cost of my glasses or contact lenses?

We can no longer process EyeMed claims for glasses or contacts under in-network benefits. However, if your plan includes out-of-network reimbursement, you may still receive money back. We’ll check your benefits through Anagram and let you know exactly how much EyeMed will reimburse you before you make any decisions. If you purchase your eyewear through us, we’ll submit the claim for you, and EyeMed will mail your reimbursement check (usually within 2–4 weeks).

Will you accept EyeMed again in the future?

At this time, we’ve made a firm decision not to rejoin the EyeMed network.

Can my eye exam be billed to my medical insurance?

In some cases, yes. If you have a medical eye condition—such as dry eyes, cataracts, glaucoma, or diabetes—your medical insurance can often cover your comprehensive exam. Please note that medical insurance does not cover services related to contact lenses or eyewear. Before your visit, we recommend calling your insurance provider (the number is on the back of your card) or checking your account online to verify your deductible status. This will help you understand any potential balance after your visit.

How can I check if my EyeMed plan includes “out-of-network” reimbursement?

You can log in to your account at vsp.com or call VSP Customer Service at 1-800-877-7195 to confirm your benefits. Our team can also verify your coverage for you through Anagram, which we use to help simplify the process for our patients.

What will my exam cost?

Exam fees vary depending on whether you’re a new or established patient, and whether contact lenses are part of your exam. Please reach out to our team for exact pricing details. You can email us at griswoldeyecare@gmail.com.

or call us at (860) 376-2848—we’re happy to help clarify everything before your appointment.
