A Note from Dr. Simmons: Dry Eye Services

January 8, 2025

This year at Griswold Eye Care we are working hard to expand our dry eye services. Dry eyes affect so many people and it can lead to not only discomfort but also worse vision. If dry eyes are properly diagnosed and properly treated it can lead to a drastic improvement in quality of life because you will be more comfortable AND more clear!

Of course, eye drops are an easy fix for a lot of people but let’s face it – drops aren’t for everyone and they don’t treat every aspect of dry eyes. Late last year we added a thermal one touch service to our practice which is targeted heat therapy to treat the meibomian gland dysfunction type of dryness. This allows your own oils in your eyelids to coat your eyes and protect them. So far, we are very happy with the level of comfort it has given many of our patients (and us too)!

In March we will be adding Low Level Light Therapy to our practice. This machine is completely painless and works to use light at different wavelengths to promote cell growth and healing. The red-light setting decreases inflammation and promotes cell growth to promote healing to help with dry eyes. The blue light setting kills bacteria and treats blepharitis. The infrared setting is used post-surgery to promote faster and better healing by reducing inflammation. We are very excited to bring this service to our patients. This light therapy is very new so it is not yet covered by insurances. However, this does have studies that prove its benefits in the clinical setting to treat dry eyes and other ocular conditions.

If you are interested in learning more feel free to reach out or discuss it at your appointment with us!
